'A nasty turn'

automat --

As we face the fundraising deadline at midnight tonight, I want you to know what we are up against.

Less than 24 hours ago, the McCain campaign launched the latest and lowest in a series of misleading attack ads.

This Karl Rove-style ploy misleads people about Barack's energy plan and even mocks his ability to inspire voters and bring Americans back into the political process.

Watchdogs in the media are calling McCain's accusations "bogus," "desperate," "wrong," "misleading," "ugly," "offensive," "reckless," and "a nasty turn into the gutter."

Some in McCain's own party are critical of the ad. One senior Republican strategist quoted by the Washington Post called the latest ad a "wild swing at Obama" that reflects his campaign's "increasing bitterness" and the lack of "any coherent strategy to elect McCain."

Even John Weaver, a strategist who worked for McCain's presidential campaign in 2000 and on his current campaign last year, called the ad "childish," adding that this negative strategy "diminishes John McCain" and "needs to stop."

But we will not let any attack stand. Barack himself responded quickly and forcefully, and within hours our campaign created a response ad to take the Republican smear tactics head-on.

Make a donation of $5 or more now to get our response on the air and show the McCain campaign that there is a cost to this kind of negative politics.

Watch the Ad and Donate Before the Deadline

Your support will also give this campaign a crucial boost in momentum as we fight for Democrats up and down the ballot and in every single state. For the first time in a generation, we are putting offices and staff in all 50 states. And we can't do it without your support.

With the election less than 100 days away, media pundits and Washington insiders will be watching our fundraising numbers more closely than ever. The Republican National Committee and John McCain finished last month with $100 million in the bank. We need to close the gap.

In the face of these new attacks, you can help demonstrate that a movement funded by grassroots supporters giving only what they can afford is ready to take on the Republican fundraising machine and its onslaught of negativity.

There are only hours left to make an impact in July.

Watch the new ad and make a donation of $5 or more before the midnight deadline.

Thanks,

David

Midnight Deadline

automat --

Midnight tonight is the financial reporting deadline for July.

Once again, everyone will be sizing up this campaign to see if we can compete with John McCain and the Republican National Committee.

Your hard work and generosity have gotten us this far, but the fact remains, our opponents still have a big fundraising advantage. They are very good at raking in huge donations, especially from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs.

That's why we need to show the strength of our grassroots movement before the deadline tonight. Help prove that a campaign powered by people like you, giving only what they can afford, can go toe-to-toe with the Republican fundraising machine.

Make a donation of $5 or more to support this movement for change.

Make a Donation Before the Midnight Deadline

As you've probably heard, if you make a donation before midnight, you could join me at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

This year, we're opening up the convention the way supporters like you have opened up the political process all across the country. On the last day, more than 75,000 people will come together to be a part of history -- folks like you who have been building this movement from the bottom up.

It will be an incredible event, and if you make a donation in any amount before tonight's deadline, you and a guest could travel to Denver, spend a couple of nights at a hotel, and join me backstage before I accept the nomination.

Make a donation of $5 or more now.

I'm looking forward to seeing you soon.

Thanks,

Barack

Your backstage pass to the convention

The Democratic Party
Dear automat,

When Barack Obama delivered his breakout speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention, the energy in the hall was amazing. He made thousands of people, including me, feel extremely proud to be Democrats.

This year is going to be even better.

On the last night of the convention -- when Barack accepts the Democratic nomination -- more than 75,000 people will fill the biggest stadium in Denver to be a part of the moment.

We're opening up the convention to as many people as possible, and I hope you'll be there to join me.

If you make a donation before midnight tomorrow, you could be part of a very special opportunity. Ten supporters who give before the July fundraising deadline will be selected for an all-expenses-paid trip to Denver. You'll get to bring a guest, fly to Denver, spend a couple days at the convention, and meet Barack before his speech.

Donate $5 or more today, and you could go Backstage with Barack:

This would be a very different message if you were a Republican.

For one, you wouldn't be invited to the convention -- unless you were a rich fat cat or very well connected. Also, this message would be filled with false, negative attacks targeting Barack and other Democrats.

That's not how politics should work. You are what makes this party work, and you deserve the facts, not smears.

Here's a simple fact: John McCain and the Republican National Committee finished June with $100 million in the bank. And that's not counting the untold millions collected by shadowy outside groups preparing their next Swift Boat.

Here's another fact: Tomorrow at midnight is the fundraising deadline for July. The media and political pundits will once again be sizing up the DNC to see if we can compete with John McCain and the RNC.

We need to close the fundraising gap -- and, unlike our opponents, we do not accept money from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs. Instead, we rely on ordinary people like you giving only what you can afford.

Let's show the strength of our Party and this movement for change. Make a donation of $5 or more to support our 50-state organizing strategy before tomorrow's deadline, and you could join Barack backstage at the open convention in Denver:

https://donate.barackobama.com/deadlinednc

With your support, we can do more than just win elections up and down the ballot in November. We can change politics and make this country better for all Americans.

Thank you,

Howard Dean

My backstage with Barack story

automat --

Barack likes to tell a story about the two of us standing backstage before his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention.

The way he tells it, he was too busy in the days before the convention to feel any pressure -- but about an hour before the speech, I could tell he was getting a little nervous.

To break the tension, right before he went out on stage I leaned in close and said, "Just don't screw it up, buddy."

We laughed. And then Barack brought the house down.

This year, the house is going to be a lot bigger. More than 75,000 people will be in Denver to be part of this important moment, and I want to tell you about an opportunity to join Barack backstage before his acceptance speech.

Ten supporters who make a donation in any amount by midnight this Thursday, July 31st, will be selected to fly to Denver, spend a couple of nights in a hotel, participate in the convention, and go Backstage with Barack. Each supporter who is selected will also get to bring a guest along to share the experience.

Make a contribution of $5 or more today and you could have your own Backstage with Barack story to tell:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstagednc

Barack's speech at the convention will be a culmination of the unlikely journey that has brought all of us so far over the past 17 months.

He will call on us to come together and work for change -- not just to win this election, but to make things better for all Americans.

Seeing it in person will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I'm excited about being there, and if you make a donation of $5 or more before the deadline, you could join Barack backstage:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstagednc

Thanks for everything you've done to get us here.

Michelle

Keep the pressure on

The Democratic Party
Dear automat,

Register for Change bus tour We have some good news today, and it's all thanks to supporters like you.

In the month of June, the DNC raised approximately $22 million -- our best month of the year by far.

This is a stunning achievement, and it's to your credit. People like you heard the call, and thousands have answered it.

But we're facing opponents with staggering resources at their disposal. The Republican National Committee finished June with nearly $68 million in the bank.

We can't stop now. We're counting on you to help us close the gap.

Please make a donation of $5 now to keep building our momentum and bring about the change this country so desperately needs:

https://donate.barackobama.com/ourjunenumbers

The DNC does not accept donations from Washington lobbyists or special interest PACs.

But John McCain and the RNC have no such standards, and together they raised nearly $100 million in June. Add to that the huge checks brought in by shadowy outside groups, there's no telling how much our opponents will spend on attack ads.

They're not backing down, and neither can we. Only by working together can we fight back against the massive funds they're raising from special interest PACs and Washington Lobbyists.

It's up to you. Take a moment now and strengthen our movement for change:

https://donate.barackobama.com/ourjunenumbers

We're fighting for Democrats up and down the ballot and in every state. That means competing in a lot of battlegrounds that have not traditionally been successful for Democrats. Our 50-state strategy is working -- but we need your support to keep the momentum going.

It's going to take all of us working together to defeat John McCain and the Republicans, and we can't do it without you.

Thanks,

Tom McMahon

The Democratic Party
Dear automat,

If selected, you and a friend will go Backstage with Barack and be a part of history.

As we continue to build our 50-state strategy, your support is crucial to preparing for victory in November. Please take a moment and make a contribution so you can be a part of this special opportunity.

It would be great to see you in Denver!

Obama for America
Friend --

Go Backstage with Barack I'm out here in Denver, Colorado visiting the site of the Democratic National Convention, and there is excitement in the mountain air.

Folks are working hard on Barack's plan for a truly open convention. It will be a historic event, and you can be a part of it.

If you make a donation in any amount before midnight on July 31st, you could be selected to travel to Denver for the last two days of the convention, including the final event -- Barack's acceptance of the Democratic nomination for President before 75,000 people.

Ten supporters will be selected from all over the country, and each will be able to bring one guest. We'll provide airfare, accommodations, and two days of convention activities -- including a private meeting with Barack before his historic speech.

Our team shot a short video of the stadium to give you a sense of the event. Watch the video and make a donation of $25 today, and you could go Backstage with Barack:

https://donate.barackobama.com/backstage

Supporters like you are the reason this campaign has been possible. We are thrilled that some of you will be able to celebrate what you accomplished with us in Denver.

But we have a long way to go, and Barack can't do this without you.

Thanks,

Steve

Big announcement

The Democratic Party
automat --

Join Barack at the Open ConventionI wanted you to be the first to hear the news.

At the Democratic National Convention next month, we're going to kick off the general election with an event that opens up the political process the same way we've opened it up throughout this campaign.

Barack has made it clear that this is your convention, not his.

On Thursday, August 28th, he's scheduled to formally accept the Democratic nomination in a speech at the convention hall in front of the assembled delegates.

Instead, the convention will move to an outdoor stadium where Barack will join more than 75,000 people for a huge, free, open-air event and deliver his acceptance speech to the American people.

It's going to be an amazing event, and Barack would like you to join him. Free tickets will become available as the date approaches, but we've reserved a special place for a few of the people who brought us this far and who continue to drive this campaign.

If you make a donation of $5 or more between now and midnight on July 31st, you could be one of 10 supporters chosen to fly to Denver and spend two days and nights at the convention, meet Barack backstage, and watch his acceptance speech in person. Each of the ten supporters who are selected will be able to bring one guest to join them.

Make a donation now and you could have a front row seat to history:

https://donate.barackobama.com/DNCconvention

We'll follow up with more details on this and other convention activities as we get closer, but please take a moment and pass this note to someone you know who might like to be there.

It will be an event you'll never forget.

Thank you,

David
