They're wrong

automat --

We're closing the books on the first fundraising quarter of the 2012 race at midnight tomorrow.

A lot of folks will be interpreting our numbers as a measure of this campaign's support.

They're not wrong, but they are wrong about why.

We measure our success not in dollars but in people -- in the number of everyday Americans who've chosen to give whatever they can afford because they know we've got more work to do.

I'm asking you to be one of them. Please donate $5 or more before midnight tonight:

http://my.democrats.org/JuneDeadline

Thank you,

Barack

P.S. -- Your gift automatically enters you to join the Vice President and me for dinner. We'd love to meet you. Please donate here:

-------------ORIGINAL MESSAGE-------------
From: Jim Messina, BarackObama.com
Subject: You're the first to know

I just got an unexpected update about the "Dinner with Barack" contest we kicked off last week that I think you'll want to hear.

The President wanted to tell you the news himself, so he recorded a short video with the new details.

I can't tell you anything more than that -- but let's just say if you haven't yet thrown your name in the hat for this thing, I have a feeling this announcement might change that.

Watch the President's video, and then donate $5 or more to be automatically entered for the chance to have dinner with him:

Thanks,

Messina

The President's speech on Afghanistan

Democrats
automat --

Last night, President Obama gave a speech about the future of our military engagement in Afghanistan -- and the role America should play in the world.

If you didn't watch, take a moment to listen to the President talk about his decision to bring thousands of troops home from Afghanistan -- and pass it on to your friends.

Watch now.

Watch the video

As I watched, I was struck by the importance of this moment. In 2009, when President Obama announced the Afghanistan surge from West Point, he said that he would begin the process of bringing troops home by July of this year. Now, that's exactly what will happen.

For almost a decade, we've been fighting in Afghanistan, but as of last night, there's a new way forward.

Take a moment to watch -- then share this speech with your friends:

Dinner

automat --

The President and I have a routine -- we get lunch together almost every Friday.

But all I get is lunch. You could be one of four supporters to have dinner with him soon.

Donate $5 or more today to have your name automatically thrown in the hat here:

https://my.democrats.org/Dinner-with-Barack2

I'm reminded every week that sitting down for a meal with the President of the United States -- without TV cameras or a big crowd -- is something only a few people will ever get to do.

You're not going to want to miss this chance.

I wish you luck,

Joe

Dinner?

automat --

I've set aside time for four supporters like you to join me for dinner.

Most campaigns fill their dinner guest lists primarily with Washington lobbyists and special interests.

We didn't get here doing that, and we're not going to start now. We're running a different kind of campaign. We don't take money from Washington lobbyists or special-interest PACs -- we never have, and we never will.

We rely on everyday Americans giving whatever they can afford -- and I want to spend time with a few of you.

So if you make a donation today, you'll be automatically entered for a chance to be one of the four supporters to sit down with me for dinner. Please donate $3 or more today:

https://my.democrats.org/Dinner-with-Barack

We'll pay for your flight and the dinner -- all you need to bring is your story and your ideas about how we can continue to make this a better country for all Americans.

This won't be a formal affair. It's the kind of casual meal among friends that I don't get to have as often as I'd like anymore, so I hope you'll consider joining me.

But I'm not asking you to donate today just so you'll be entered for a chance to meet me. I'm asking you to say you believe in the kind of politics that gives people like you a seat at the table -- whether it's the dinner table with me or the table where decisions are made about what kind of country we want to be.

It starts with a gift of whatever you can afford.

Please make a donation of $3 or more today, and we'll throw your name in the hat for the upcoming dinner:

https://my.democrats.org/Dinner-with-Barack

I've said before that I want people like you to shape this campaign from the very beginning -- and this is a chance for four people to share their ideas directly with me.

Hope to see you soon,

Barack

Last night's spectacle

Democrats
automat --

I'm writing to you from Manchester, New Hampshire, where last night I witnessed a spectacle that every single Obama supporter needs to hear about.

The major GOP presidential candidates debated for the first time and made one thing very clear: They have no agenda but to take down President Obama.

They even nodded along when one called the Obama administration a "destructive force," and they said nothing when another said the President has "embraced our enemies."

Last night was a wake-up call to anyone who thinks they can sit tight while the Republicans battle each other for the nomination: The campaign to defeat Barack Obama and roll back his entire record is well underway. And that's the one thing on which all of their potential candidates agree.

It was seven against one. Since the President won't be speaking for himself at one of these debates until next year, our best response is to show the Republicans that when they attack Barack Obama, it only makes us fight back harder.

Chip in $3 or more today to support the President and Democrats across the country.

Fundamentally, last night's debate was about which of their candidates would turn back the clock the farthest.

They came out for re-fighting the battles they lost on Wall Street reform and the health care law. They backed reinstating "Don't Ask, Don't Tell."

They even talked about abolishing the Environmental Protection Agency -- and phasing out Social Security and Medicare.

They actually spent time debating whether they think Sarah Palin would have made a better vice president than Joe Biden (spoiler alert: They still think so!).

But the words "education" and "middle class" were never uttered even once.

If you were watching at home, you might have thought it was a re-run from four or eight years ago.

Most of these people are full-time candidates with nothing to lose and nothing to do but keep pushing to take us back to the failed policies of the past. Help fight back with a donation today:

http://my.democrats.org/Wake-up-call

Thanks,

Robert Gibbs

These people want to be president

Democrats
automat --

Monday's Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire isn't the first of the 2012 election, but it may be the first one that counts.

This time, they're bringing their varsity squad: Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty will be there, along with Herman Cain (polling second in Iowa), Ron Paul, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum.

And that can only mean one thing: In Monday's debate, these candidates will go all out to play up their extremist appeal by attacking President Obama.

We need to be ready to fight back.

So we'll be here all night Monday, fact-checking them when they go off the rails, showcasing smart comments from others keeping track, and providing you a place to follow along.

Help keep them honest -- sign up to watch the debate with us on Monday and get a reminder so you won't miss a minute.

On Monday, all of us have to be ready to push back against their misstatements and attacks on President Obama.

Because we all know how quickly a straight-up lie can become a widespread rumor among conservative activists -- and then become a story that the media just won't stop talking about.

We've seen it with the birther nonsense and false claims about the health care law. We've seen this President called a socialist and climate science attacked as a myth.

So on Monday, when a bunch of Republicans who want to be President will be talking to the country in prime time, who the heck knows what they'll feel compelled to say.

We'll be ready, and I hope you will be too. It'll take all of us to keep the record straight.

Sign up for a reminder to join us on Monday:

Can we get your thoughts?

We need to hear from you as we shape the direction of the Democratic Party.

So we put together a survey to get your thoughts. It will only take a few minutes, and it's a great way to make your voice heard.

Can you take a second to share your feedback?

Your voice and commitment are part of how we elected President Obama. And they are the reason we'll be successful in making his vision a reality.

Tap

automat --

Someone is about to tap you on the shoulder.

It's someone who's already made a donation to the 2012 campaign -- and who's willing to give again if you'll step up and take ownership of it, too.

They've made a promise to match your first donation to this campaign, so if you decide to give $5 now, you'll double your impact.

Will you?

https://my.democrats.org/2011-Grassroots-Match

We're not just gathering donations here. We're gathering people.

We didn't get this far by doing things the usual way. Our campaign doesn't take money from Washington lobbyists or special-interest PACs.

We're doing this the right way -- with a whole lot of people like you taking the lead.

One of our earliest supporters is prepared to make a second donation in order to persuade you to make your first. It's that kind of commitment that creates a grassroots campaign capable of changing the outcome of an election -- and capable of changing the course of this country.

That's the spirit that drives us. And it starts with a tap on the shoulder.

Now all you have to do is take them up on the offer. Give it a go:

https://my.democrats.org/2011-Grassroots-Match

Thank you,

Barack
