re: Trump's smoke and mirrors

About yesterday's press conference...
DemocratsJoin us.
It's up to us to prevent the most corrupt, conflict-ridden administration in history. Pitch in $3 or more to help Democrats hold Trump accountable.

If there's one (and maybe only one) thing Donald Trump knows, it's that perception can very easily become reality.

He knows from personal experience: despite having filed for six business bankruptcies, Trump was able to brand himself as a "successful" businessman through a reality TV show that convinced millions of Americans he was.

And just yesterday, Trump held his first press conference since July. The goal was to address his conflicts of interest and how he would divest from his business interests before taking office. He even brought out an ethics lawyer (who works for him) and stacks of folders (which reporters were not allowed to examine) to make it look like he was taking this seriously!

Instead, we...

  • Learned his sons -- who he would still be in regular contact with -- would be running his businesses while he was in office. This is not a blind trust or a divestment. This is him stepping away for a few years but still having a personal interest in his own bottom line.

  • Heard Trump claim that "only reporters" cared about the release of his tax returns -- which would give us a pretty good idea of what potential conflicts, foreign or domestic, our president-elect might have. In fact, back in August, 74 percent of Americans -- including 62 percent of Republicans -- said he had a responsibility to release his returns.

  • Witnessed the man who is about to be President compare the intelligence community to Nazi Germany and refuse to take questions from news organizations who published reports about him that he didn't like.

This was a preview of what's to come. We're going to have to speak out and fight back every single day to hold Trump and the GOP accountable. Pitch in $3 or whatever you can today to help us do it.
