VICTORY (for now) against Republican corruption in Congress
Republicans tried to sneak through a major dismantling of congressional ethics oversight late last night.
But Democratic leaders and thousands of grassroots supporters spoke out, and the GOP is backing off -- for now.
This doesn't change the fact that House Republicans' very first action in 2017 was an attempt to make it easier to get away with corruption. And they've already indicated that they'll try to implement these changes again, when they hope fewer people like us will be paying attention.
We're counting on you to help us keep the pressure on. Can you pitch in $3 or more right now so we have the resources we need to stop the GOP?

Subject: ADD YOUR NAME: Stop Republican corruption in Congress
The GOP's first order of business this year: dismantling the Office of Congressional Ethics. Add your name right now to tell House Republicans you won't stand for corruption.
Late last night, House Republicans held a secret vote to effectively eliminate the Office of Congressional Ethics -- hours before the new Republican-led Congress is sworn in.
The Office of Congressional Ethics was created as an independent body to investigate congressional corruption in the aftermath of an illegal lobbying scandal that ended with three members of Congress being sent to jail.
Now, instead of being independent, the office will report to a GOP-controlled House committee. It won't be able to accept anonymous tips or report any information to the public. Just to drive home the point, Republicans even stripped the word "ethics" from the office's name. And these last-minute changes were orchestrated by a group of Republicans, several of whom have been the targets of ethics investigations.
Republicans need to know we're not going to let their corruption run rampant through Congress. Add your name right now to call on the GOP to restore the Office of Congressional Ethics -- and let them know that if they won't hold themselves accountable, we will:
